C. Ashely Brown-Lawrence has been singing since she was 2 years old and her dad wrote a song for her to sing. She hasn’t stopped singing since. Her newly released single, “I’ve Got the Victory,” has been garnering all sorts of attention throughout the industry and she recently was asked to perform during the Stellar Awards.
“I had a wonderful time,” she said of the Stellar Awards performance. “I have been watching the Stellar Awards since I was about 4 years old. And just to be able to be a part of it as an actual performer…[was] really an awesome experience.”
Brown-Lawrence has been a background singer in the past but is now branching out solo and said she enjoyed the experience of performing center stage. But the spotlight isn’t all about her. Brown-Lawrence glorifies God through her songs and strives to always remain obedient and faithful to His leading.
For now, she feels led to stay put in Mississippi where she grew up instead of moving to Los Angeles or New York City, where many musicians go to make it big.
“I have been advised to move to L.A. or New York,” she said. “[But] I don’t think my faith would allow me to do so. We have finite minds, but we serve an infinite God. The Bible tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the desires of our hearts. I have delighted myself in the Lord all of my life. I love serving God. There’s a difference between positioning for geographical opportunities and blessings. Yet, when you are from a small town and God still meets the needs and blessings – now that is favor!”
