There’s something deeply moving about reading a book that not only entertains—but heals. Recently, I had the honor of reading The Good For Nothing Puddle to a room full of children. And what I witnessed was nothing short of transformative.

The story begins with heartbreak. A little girl loses the thing she loves most. Her grief is so heavy that her tears form a puddle around her feet—a puddle that follows her everywhere she goes. No matter what she does, she can’t get rid of it. She even cries out to God, begging Him to take it away.
As I read those words aloud, the room grew still. The children’s faces were full of empathy and concern. They felt her sadness. They understood that puddle—not just as water, but as the weight of sorrow and pain.

But then, as the story unfolded, something remarkable happened—not just in the book, but in the room itself. The puddle that once felt like a burden began to take on new meaning. It reflected memories, love, and connection. It didn’t disappear, but it changed.
So did the children’s faces. What started as solemn stares slowly turned into hopeful eyes and soft smiles. As the little girl in the book embraced her puddle—not to erase it, but to walk with it—they, too, began to understand that grief can carry beauty, and that healing often comes not from forgetting, but from remembering with love.
The Good For Nothing Puddle helps children explore the nature of grief and loss and gently leads them toward hope and redemption. It doesn’t sugarcoat sadness—but it reveals how, even in sorrow, we can find light.
It was a powerful reminder that children are not too young to understand loss—they just need the right tools, the right words, and the right story. And this book? It’s exactly that.
